Long Found Friend

i was talking to someone who said “lives are all accidents”

as if they just happen this way

“and every relationship, only coincidence”

coincide-ence, that’s what i say

and if our whole planet is taken for granted

i’ll still give thanks every day

my long found friend

come up for breath if you’re thirsty

come up for air if you’re tired

under the shade of childhood

i would stand on tree branches

the sky has never seemed so wide

and looking up and looking down

seeing then and seeing now

and looking on... i see through time

under the shade of childhood

in a dream where sunlight stood

lifting us from inside

my long found friend

come up for breath if you’re thirsty

come up for air if you’re tired
